Testing

We love science and live by the motto “to measure is to know”. When developing MAD-S we ran into an uncommon problem. As soon as we started using the TeXtreme-based laminates the parts didn’t break. This was of course very positive but it also meant that we could not simply fly the drone a month on the racetrack to find the weak spots. We also noticed that the stiffer we made the frame, the lower filtering was needed. But how should we know if every step of this iterative process is truly a step in the right direction? Our solution was to design a tensile testing rig – custom made for FPV racing frames. With this rig we have been able to measure frame-stiffness in a non-subject way and you can find the result on this page. We use these results as a compliment when evaluating different designs – not a replacement for flying the frames. We recommend you to do the same.

Our long term goal is to complement the tensile testing with strength testing and even impact testing. These testings are pretty labor and cost intensive so for the moment we don’t have time to do them. If you think this is something for you – please go ahead! We would appreciate more science in this industry and will support it in any way we can!
