Description

Lighter, Faster, Stronger – This is MAD-Lite

MAD-Lite is our latest evolution of our vertical A-frame design. Compared to MAD-S it has the following design changes:

  • 25g Lower weight and is now the lightest vertical frame on the market! A RTF MAD-Lite with 2207 motors and 20×20 stack tip the scales at around 260g without battery

 

  • Support for both 20×20 and 30,5×30,5 stacks. 20×20 FC and 30,5×30,5 ESC:s can be fitted at the same time without any additional adapter plates.

 

  • Our custom made TeXtreme carbon fiber laminates are now cured between to steel mirrors in our own press giving an mirror finish on both sides of the laminate. Arms are cut out of a 2,3mm anisotropic laminate with TeXtreme fabric as the first layer, Toray M30SC UD (Intermediate Modulus) as the second layer and the core is made out of Toray T700S UD. Mid plates and motor plates are made out of a 2mm 0/90 laminate with TeXtreme fabric as the first layer and a Toray T700S UD core.

 

  • Staggered arms (also known as a Z-frame). Front motors are lowered and rear motors raised. This means less props in view and cleaner air for rear props. The difference in height is 12mm.

 

  • New arm interlocking mechanism where the arms go through each other. This decreases risk for delamination when crashing into something hard (read concrete/steel). Arm crossing-point has been moved in under the motor to reduce load on motor screws in crashes.

 

  • 3 motor screws per motor to save weight.

 

  • Arm-cutouts for zip ties. Top and bottom plates can be removed without arms detaching from the center plate.

 

  • Optimized for nano cameras.

 

  • Distance between the front and rear motors has been increased by 2mm to fit bigger batteries.

 

  • The smaller center body is more or less completely covered by the cameramount and battery. This decreases drag, improves efficiency and top speed.

 

Compared to conventional racing frame MAD-Lite have the following advantages:

  • Our unique A-frame design has higher stiffness and resonance frequency that lets you use less filtering. In some cases no gyro LPF is needed at all! Typically the frame resonance frequency is 50% higher compared to conventional racing frames with the same weight. This results in better propwash handling because there is less delay between gyro and PID-loop. That also means that motors run cooler so that you can fly longer and faster with the same battery.

 

  • Excellent protection of electronics – the frame doubles as an exoskeleton

 

  • Lower drag – there are only 2 pieces of carbon under the motor and propeller compared to a conventional box-frame that has 3. The arms are only 2.3mm thick so in total there is only 4.6mm wide obstruction under each propeller. This is less area under the propellers than any other design on the market.

 

  • Mid-mounted battery means that the center of gravity is very close to the propline. This reduces inertia and makes turns tighter.

 

  • Our high quality grippy battery strap is included with the kit. Velcro or a sticky pad is recommended under the battery.

 

  • The use of Intermediate Modulus carbon fiber increases stiffness by 40% compared to regular High Strength fibers that all other frame manufacturers use. We are still the only racing drone manufacturer to do so. We also only use Japanese carbon fiber from the big manufacturers like Toray and Mitsubishi Rayon. Those that have flown our MAD-S know this material and its superior properties well. The anisotropic layup sacrifices stiffness and strength across the arm to gain more stiffness and strength along the arm where it is needed.
